As I understand, this method has been used to boot homebrew stuff since
the demo scene started (there's a quite good port of Rik Dangerous out
there), AFAIK this method will only work for games which load entirely
into memory, so if you don't intend to buy your gamecube games, then don't
bother.

Unfortunately I have heard that bigger games *do* work by streaming the data
as required. It is slow and jerky at the moment though and hopefully it will
not get optimised.

Still with the requirements and messing about it takes I don't suppose too
many people with be doing it, not enough to make a major impact on sales
anyway.

I think there are some good things about this, firstly yo can emulate other
systems Mario 64 anyone? this has to be the best thing about the cube being
hacked. Also i read about a save game copier, just like the USB Memory Card
but using PSO and a BBA.
Of course cube sales may also increase but game support may decrease. Yey
for hackers! Dam Hackers! I can't really decide which, theres advantages as
well as disadvantages of this.

I think it will hardly affect sales at all!

Lets not forget you will need to bye the gamecube.

Then you will need to buy the broadband adapter (which seems an impossable
task in the UK at the moment!)

Then you will need highspeed internet access to download the game images.

And then you will need to have prety good computer knowledge, I dont think
your average Jo could really understand how to get it all working.

So there will be only a tiny percentage of gamecube users that could or
would do this. And by some of the responses to this post, the ones that
could dont seem to want to.

I personaly am intrested to try it out and see how fast the games run etc.
(Just curious ;) )

But that seems like a distant dream unless i want to pay the extorshunate
prices on ebay uk for a bba.

Hmm, seeing as someone managed to extract the Zelda OOT/MC ROM file from the
WW bonus disc and run it on a PC N64 emulator, there must be a pretty good
chance of there being a more or less fully functional N64 emulator on
there... Do you reckon it'd be possible to hack the bonus disc and replace
the OOT rom with another N64 rom??
Just a thought...

Yeah that would be cool. I enjoyed playing Zelda as it was in RGB, and I
prefer the GC controller to the N64 one. Though I think the N64 had a more
precise analogue stick, it ached after a while.

Mind you it'd be even cooler if Nintendo decided to release a few more N64
games in this fashion. I wonder just how easy it was to emulate an N64
game. They could knock out a few N64 classics for not much money. If they
had a decent selection of a few games on one disc I'd even consider paying
full price for such a thing.

depends if the emulator was game-specific.

which, judging by the lack of any other such bonus discs since, it
could have been.

well mario64 and mariokart have both been injected into the loader and both
work very well.

Have you seen any games running like this in action??

Just curious to have somones oppinion on what they actualy run like when
trying to play the game.

Surley its just a matter of better coding (on the softwares part) to
increase speed etc get rid of bugs and so on.

I read somthing about what to do if the performance is slow and jerky in the
file which came with AC Loader. Unfortunatly I have no BBA as I have said so
wont be doing n e testing.

I cants say I still fully understand how to do it anyway (i think i do) but
some things i just dont know (for instance why AC Loader is called Animal
Crossing Loader!??)

The BBA is slower than the disc drive and there's nothing that can be
done about that.

Because it was first made to load Animal Crossing.

exactly, even freeloader is too much effort for my liking, except in
